Huge Snowball on Hampstead Heath
Many parents throughout the UK are angry that thousands of schools are still closed despite there having been very little fresh snow overnight.
Transportation problems still persist and many workers are following the advice issued by the Highways agency and staying at home. This is the reason given for many of the school closures. Many others are being forced to stay at home to look after their children because their schools were shut.
Some parents have said that the decision by some city councils to close all schools is 'ridiculous'. It sets a bad example for children who might be led to believe that when the going get tough all you need to do is stay home and have some fun.
And many were enjoying their time off in the snow yesterday, taking the opportunity to play on sledges, build snowmen and have snowball fights.
On Hampstead Heath a group of young people built a snowball that was over 5 feet in diameter and was estimated to weigh more than half a ton. As the attached video shows, they struggled to push it to the top of the hill and then released it.
The super-size-snowball barrelled down the hill and one foolhardy onlooker attempted to hitch a ride, narrowly avoiding being squashed like a pancake. Comments on Youtube explain how the huge frozen wall was made by a group of complete strangers who all joined in pushing the ball around to build its size.
Safety police have warned that such a prank could so easily have resulted in injury. One policeman said 'I like to have a bit of fun but this is going too far. A super size snowball like this could do untold damage to people and property'.
Weather forecasters are preparing Britons for further snowfall later this week as more cold Russian weather heads for the UK.
